Good evening all,I posted a thread recently on this forum as I am looking to move from a sales/commercial role into consultancy.I have managed to get myself an interview with a relatively small consultancy firm who mainly work in the FMCG markets.Clearly my experience is very limited and some advice on how to approach the interview would be appreciated.Some background is that I have an engineering degree, speak fluent french. I'm a strong negotiator with a sound commercial awareness.Thanks in advance.Duncan

First thing is that interviews are all different - 1 to 1; group, follow ons, etc. Second thing is that successful interview technique can be learnt. My approach (others will differ)is start with your CV (they will!) and your key achievements and skills. Prepare/learn "little stories" around each achievement explaining what YOU did to make it happen (not the team around you) as you are selling YOU. Weave in how you used your key skills to achieve. This must not (again - MUST NOT) come out parrot fashion but is a tool for your confidence and so you don't spend lots of time Um-ing and Ah-ing - you may feel daft talking to yourself when you are learning/practising but it does pay off. Think about body language and eye contact (but not overtly so); use your hands expressively (but not clowning around) to emphasise points. Don't be afraid to turn the tables a little and ask the interviewer to explain or elaborate on things but remember not to appear arrogant or opinionated. Good luck.
