Hi,Just wondered what the kind of opportunities there are as a graduate for working in project management in a Tech Consulting firm. It is an area which has come up in some of the firms I have applied to. I had previously ignored this type of role because I always thought project management within consultancies was something that you transferred into/were promoted to when you had gained experience rather than a business function you were trained in.I am currently looking to get into the type of role which has a reasonably equal mix of business consulting and technology consulting skills - i.e. IT Strategy & related areas. Should I perhaps be looking more towards project management as well?Thank you for any help

Regarding project management experience in an IT company, I would do some due diligence against your expectations of project management. I have often seen what I would term 'technical project management' from IT companies, which means focusing on deliverables and time and budget. All good stuff and essential, but little focus on developing a project charter, forming and leading the team, communications planning and management, change management, 'real' governance and risk management that is broader than technical risk. I'm certain that statistically there are some PMs who work for IT companies who do these things as well, I just haven't seen them ;¬)
