Hi,I have a 2:1 and 5 years of experience including sales, management and internal strategy (all in different companies, including a year with a blue-chip).I would like to make a fresh start with a top MBA next year. With my experience (which is not outstanding by any standards), what type of consultancies or other top firms will I stand a chance with? I ask because I'd like to understand if I stand a chance with the top firms. If I don't, I might as well go for a Tier-2 MBA (Imperial, etc.) and spend that much less. Also, with my kind of experience, I am not sure if the likes of LBS and Harvard will offer me a place.Anybody here that can guide me? Many thanks in advance.

Marilena - as noone else is talking to you I'll take a stab. I've been in the consulting game for along time now and am still a bit bemused/ amused about the focus on the "top tier" consulting companies. The 2nd tier get very similar work and quite frankly you are more valued as an individual in such a company. Others will no doubt dispute this. An MBA is a badge (and yes I've got one) which is partly marketing but mainly shows you have learnt the "skills" and can put the big company/industry jigsaw together and make all the pieces fit. This is what employers look for. If you can get accepted by a "tier 1" MBA school then take it but don't be put off by going to somewhere like Imperial (not my business school) or by looking a "2nd level" or "niche" consulting companies - in my opinion this where the fun is in the consulting business.
