Hi,Can anyone tell me the difference between the role of Director and Managing Director at KPMG ?What is the difference in expectation from these 2 roles ?If you can provide some information on the following metrics for each of the roles that will help. You can add other metrics as well.a) Role in proposal buildingb) Sales targetc) Managed revenue target d) Level in the client organization they deal withExample(just idea) : could be Directors assist in writing proposals but managing directors lead the proposal development effort OR Diretors sell $2 million/ year but managing directors sell 4 miilion / yearThe context of the question is a friend of mine is client partner in a mid-size company. He has been offered a position 1 level below partner in one of the top 4s.KPMG is telling him to join at Director position but it seems there is a level named Managing Director at KPMG.So he is trying to map his roles and capabilities to KPMG designations.Thanks.

I always thought director was a dumping ground for people who had gone as far as they could but weren't on a partner track. Might be totally different in big 4 though

In big 4 as far as I'm aware everyone goes to director for 1-2 years before making partner. It's essentially a salaried partner position.

Although I appreciate that candidates want to use many sources of information, why doesn't your friend just ask in the interview? He doesn't even need to ask the question directly "If I join at Director, and I hit all my targets, when could I expect promotion to partner", "what targets would those be?".Your friend is at Director level, surely this shouldn't be news to him?

There isn't such a role as Managing Director in KPMG in the UK (although some grades have different names).Grade and Titles go as follows:E - Graduate Trainee / AnalystD - Consultant / Advisor / Assistant ManagerC - Manager / Executive AdvisorB - Senior Manager / Assistant DirectorA - DirectorP - (Equity)PartnerO - (Non-equity)PartnerThe distinction between P and O is not 100% clear sometimes.

Isn't it? One is only salaried, one takes a share in the profits of the business. Seems pretty clear which one you should aspire to be!
