I see CIMA are offering a distance learning MBA with Deakin Business School in Oz for the princly sum of £6k.It takes about 12 months and looks to be an intersting course.Details are here:http://www.cimaglobal.com/cps/rde/xchg/SID-0AAAC564-1C03859A/live/root.xsl/13013.htmMy motiviation for doing an MBA is purely a personal intellectual one. I don't want to do this to move career or to get a leg up.What do people think of the Deakin programme ? It's not on the FT100 business schools list. Is it good value ?Cheers

I can give you an insight to the credibility of Deakin as an institute of Higher Education, but will leave the specific analysis of MBA programmes to someone else.As a university lecturer, I can tell you that Deakin is generally perceived as a solid mid-tier university in and outside of Australia. Perhaps comparable to the UK's Universities of East Anglia, Essex and Sussex; that is to say, generally good but not world class in most areas. 6k for some intellectual stimulation still sounds good but if the prestige is an influencing factor, it might be worth checking if there are other 'more reputable' places before handing over your well earned cash. Very best of luck my friend!PS See:http://www.australian-universities.com/rankings/

It looks good value, and particularly if you consider that UK course costs have risen a fair bit over ten years, with government and corporate funding inflating costs. However if personal intellectual curiosity is your only motivation, then I'm not sure that business administration is the subject matter that I would choose. One of the biggest questions that I would raise is the extent to which it allows you to get stuck into real world business during the course. This not only helps from the potential of getting your studies sponsored, but offers a potential interview talking point after the course and even a good route into a business career. It also actually makes the theory more intellectually stimulating if you can test it with 'empirical' evidence from the real world. I would therefore research whether distance learning enables you to meet real business people during the course to a similar extent, such as in project work.
