In an interview scenario, when the assessor is looking for 'commercial awareness' - especially at graduate level, what does this mean? How can one practically demonstrate this?

As a grad you may have identified that your university raises money for charity, but only by visiting residents door-to-door, maybe you were the bright spark that suggested tapping up local businesses and successfully raised an additional £10k for that year.ORAs a part-time Secretary, you were able to negotiate with Office Suppliers to successfully improve discounts on offer, which resulted in the company saving £10k year one.

Ok I see.My question comes from a friend who did not demonstrate it enough in a case study.

Frankly, I haven't got a clue. I always interpreted it as "common sense" or "general knowledge", i.e. just being aware of the world around you and some key principles businesses run on, rather than being particularly clever about fundraising or whatnot. To me, somebody who acknowledges the fact that time, money and resources are finite in a project and prioritising their case study questions accordingly would be demonstrating "commercial awareness".
