I am currently on a proejct management graduate training scheme in the public sector with a blue chip company and I am thinking about a career in consultancy. I have started researching my options and would like to persue a career in project management consultancywhat level would I go in as and what kind of salary could I demand? There is some information on the top-consultant.com salary survey. My impression is that project management consultancy is one area where you tend to need quite a bit of experience for most vacancies.

The Woodhurst salary survey states that:"There are no figures available for senior or junior level consultants in Programme Management. This is due to the very nature of this area which requires significant knowledge and experience of running complex multi-million pound projects and multifaceted teams."They only quote figures for managing consultants and directors. I don't think this means you can only get into the field as a if you have at least 8-10 years experience, but it does mean the opportunities are scarce.Have a look on the jobs board on this site - I think project manager vacancies quote about 5-8 years experience, but I'm not an expert.
