I am looking at returning to consulting and wish to stay within central government/public sector. I have been doing some research but would ike to know what the popular opinion is on which firms currently excel/ have a wide range of clients in this sector? (I have just under 3 years of business consulting experience at Accenture in Govt.)

Just to clarify, I want interesting consulting work in change or business improvement that is client-focused, rather than long-term outsourcing or big IT projects. Thanks.

I am currently working with a number of clients who are looking for strong consultants with Central Government experience. If you would like to give me a call on 0207 269 0530 or send me an e-mail to meccles@selecture.co.uk I would be happy to discuss various options.

You may want to give Deloitte a try. We have a very strong Gov practice, and don't do any of the outsourcing type work you want to avoid. Plus the culture's great.

PA Consulting are fairly strong in CG/public sector. They're independent of outsourcing operations etc.Capita Consulting are one of the big players for the public sector. They get a lot of work on the back of their wider service offerings.Serco are going into consulting, also on the back of extensive public sector operations.Turner & Townsend do some PFI/PPP work I think, and are recruiting. Some of the accounting firms also do public sector work. PwC have a decent reputation for it.
