Thanks. Good point, at the same time - I heard that an "associate partner" in IBM gets exposed to a variety of clients/projects and sales etc. In Deloitte, a "Senior Manager" is responsible for a specific account and its sales and delivery. Also, i read in one of the post that promotion form "associate partner" to a partner level in IBM does not entirely depend on your performance (you need to spend certain number of years at the level before you can be considered for the promotion).
It's less fixed than Deloitte in that respect - you would get broader exposure for sure, as the model is much more vendor/VAS than pureplay consulting (no matter how they spin it). As regards time at grade, not sure on that one. You don't see too many AP/B10s around, they seem to get bumped up fairly quickly (assume its the US seniority sells model causing that). For my money I would take it Nick - there are too many SMs stalled in the Big 4 waiting for the Director step which never comes, and its a very visible place to plateau. At IBM at least the distinction between the AP and the E grades is less black and white.
