Hi Guys,I would really appreciate if someone would give me some advice on which consulting firms to apply for given my background. Like all aspiring consultants, MBB tops my list of prospective firms, but I have to be real and honest and say that these would indeed be out of my league. However, what I would like are some answers with respect to where I should apply. Here is a brief overview of my educational background:University of Sheffield- Law (Left after 1 academic year for personal reasons)University of Plymouth- Law, 2:1 (Finished the remainder of my degree)MSc Universidad Carlos III, Madrid- Business Management (81% pass mark. 2nd in Class)MSc University of Maastricht, International BusinessI also speak Spanish, English and Portuguese fluently. I appreciate that completing my studies at Plymouth was probably not the best choice, but at the time this was unavoidable. My master's degree in Madrid is from a reputable university albeit with a small reputation outside of Spain. However, most of my peers have obtained positions with good firms such as KPMG, BNP Paribas, Capgemini etc. Furthermore, I have applied to other firms such as IBM, Cognizant, and HP for their consultancy type programs and I am still awaiting replies. I would be really grateful for some advice, even if this pertains to something outside of strategic consulting. Many thanks,Tom

I forgot to mention, I also have 2 years experience working with the Royal bank of Scotland in a junior customer service role, nothing to write home about. Thanks,Tom

Quick question - are you only looking within the UK? Or, if there was a good opportunity in Spain (where your Uni might be more known) would you be open to it?

Yes, actually working outside of the UK would be my preferred option to be honest. I have applied for a few firms in Spain like AT Kearney, but there does not seem to be an abundance of opportunity at this time. At the moment, I am in the Netherlands, so Germany and Belgium would be an option as well. However, I have also been applying in the UK and would be willing to come home for the right position.

It is indeed a great place to study. Girls in abundance, but I think the Spanish girls still have the slight edge.Does Maastricht have a good reputation among MC firms?

Tom,It's a well-known and decent school, but re. consulting reputation with recruiters, Mars is best placed to advise. In the UK, my alma mater and the usual suspects are where consulting firms hire from. Is this the same for Maastricht? I think you should know this.Used to live "just down the road" in NRW. An hour's drive away - muahahaha! When I was not travelling, Friday nights = Maastricht and then the weekends descend into.... well, decadence, in Amsterdam. On a more serious tone, I note that you also speak Portuguese. If you are open to Brazil opps (am in industry, TMT), do send me your CV (preferably both in English and Portuguese) and I'll bandy it around internally. Can't promise anything though. Bear in mind that local BR salaries won't compare to UK/EU ones. Also, with your education and banking background (and language), you should be able to get into something with Santander. That's another route into the LatAm market, if this tickles your fancy (research where their profits come from and why they could offer 10% dividend yield in the recent difficult times).
