I guess all those "auditor independence" issues that led to accountancy firms spinning off their consultancy arms post-Enron aren't relevant any more?

It was inevitable EY would do something like this. It actually has a more considered feel to the deal than the PwC and Deloitte acquisitions recently - cleanly building into TS without the Strat& mess PwC have created.

Apparently strat& is still hiring.. Would be interesting to know if all their clients which are pwc audited are now out of the game for consulting svcs

Rules for audit clients dictate a limit to the proportion of total revenue made annually from a client which can be generated from non-audit services. It doesn't mean PWC can't consult with audit clients, merely that the volume of work must be monitored.
