Hi everyone. I'm posting here because I am about to graduate with a Master's Degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. I went into this field hearing from others that it has the potential to be a fairly lucrative degree. I've been maintaining a decent GPA (3.5) and I work three different jobs (close to 70+ hours a week at times) in order to get by. That said, I've been looking at applying to different firms for an internship or job next summer once I earn my degree. I've made sure to read up on every firm extensively, and have noticed a tendency for a lot of firms to recruit from top-tier universities that I did not have the financial means to attend (Harvard, Kellogg, Wharton, etc,). For reference, I attend Elmhurst University, and look do to work out of the Chicago area. I currently work as a business analyst, a retail manager, and I run my own business where I consult for customers regarding technology needs (I've been doing that since 2005) and develop personalized training sessions or coaching in order to help them meet those needs.That said, I'm looking for a shot at a top firm (McKinsey, BCG, Bain, Booz and Co., PwC). Does my sub-par GPA and a degree from a school that is not a targeted recruiting area bar me from being able to pursue a field that I have become passionate about during my studies? What can I do to improve my chances of getting in? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading.
