There was a rather hilarious and frustrating Reply All experience at a well known consulting firm this morning, which basically meant that the entire company received a barrage of e-mails from 8am. Most of which were people exclaiming "Stop pressing Reply all!!!"Does anyone have any good "reply all" or accidental e-mail stories?

My favourite was the person who, during above mentioned email barage, tried to unsubscribe from the list - by emailing the entire list... Classic.Ah well, back to work.

I once heard a possibly apocryphal tale from the very early days of corporate e-mail, where a woman sent the following message to her friend..."Evelyn, I was so glad to hear you'd gone ahead and dumped that loser. Some off the things you told me he was into were just sick!"Sadly she sent the message not to Evelyn but to a company distribution list called "everyone".

Deloitte employee? The 7am cut? That was hilarious - how people can be so stupid to keep replying to 15,000 people is unreal.

About a year ago a group email was sent out, advertising internally a job opening asking, as such emails should, to respond with CV and a cover note etc. Some slick idiot took this opportunity to unwittingly announce to about 1,000 colleagues how he is better than all of them. Not sure if he got the job.

And how about email 'Recalls'? Has there EVER been a more reliable way to direct someone's attention to an email? Any 'Recall' horror stories?

Recalling emails is the best way of ensuring that we all read them?Classic one a while back:Things aren't moving in a programme, we all agree its related to a particular Senior Manager moving slowly on decisions. That same Snr manager sends a message to a select few of us, confirming yet again that things are delayed. 2 people from the programme have an "offline" backwards and forwards email chain moaning about how slow the guy is and how did he ever become a Senior Manager etc etc the usual, all quite jokey and light hearted (luckily to both of them)HOWEVER, Snr Manager message to a select few has to then be forwarded to the whole programme by one of the thow reps. Yes you guessed it, one of the two instead of sending only the original Senior Mangt message to everyone, they actually send the latest mail on their chain of moans... Wow, that was an interesting read, especially as they only recalled later on (I was in meetings at the time and came back to my desk to a "recalled" message, which meant I had a quick read)Classic

I like it when you BCC somebody in on an email and then the douchbag replies to all, revealing to everyone that you BCC'd them.As a matter of principle I now never use BCC.
I like it when you BCC somebody in on an email and then the douchbag replies to all, revealing to everyone that you BCC'd them.As a matter of principle I now never use BCC.
lolThat means you have a shite email client (or are having memories from 10 years ago when some client still had this bug). BCC fundamentally means that the email address is not communicated.

The person who I BCC'd in on the message replied all to the email, thereby exposing they were copied in and that I didn't want the others to know they were copied in.

No. Even if I 'Reply All' in the BCCed mail, it will reach only the sender and CCed folks not everyone in BCC.As untouchable1 rightly pointed out, you might be having some bad email client. Better to update it.

hehe, no that's exactly what i mean!I send an email to a whole bunch of people and BCC in Johnny.Johnny suddenly "replies to all"All those people then think "where did Johnny come from? oh, I get it, he was BCC'd! what a sneaky person that BEP is, BCCing in little johnny because he wanted johnny to see what BEP was saying to those people without them knowing that johnny knows. Here's an example:Johnny complains about sheila.I send sheila a stern note by email and BCC in johnny so he knows I've given her a good telling off.Johnny replies to all (instead of "replies") saying "thanks for telling her off, I'm glad you listened to my complaint and I agreed with all those other things you said about her when we met up the other day too, such as how fat she is"BEP slaps his forehead as sheila writes back saying "WTF... what meeting... what did you say about me??"

BEP - sorry, but if you're going to call your staff fat then you can't very well complain when they find out. Honestly!

It was just an example to illustrate the concept... (anything less "extreme" in making the point may have been too subtle for "the brains trust" here..)Basically, BCC is a minefield
