So I'm 29 years old and have been working in the last 6 years as a certified consultant for a very well known CRM (Siebel) for 2 huge global IT companies. I've been unemployed for some weeks now for reasons that are not worth mentioning and have these two offers: 1) Senior consultant in a huge consulting/audit firm (One of the big four's). Basically doing the same as i have been doing in the past. (IT consulting sounds fun but its not that fun, basically customising package software to customer needs)2) Project Manager in a consumer goods retailer where I will be the responsible for the new Regional crm implementation. This company basically doesn't even have a CRM and is not very well known. This is a mid company so we would implement a smaller crm as the one I'm certified, probably a crm that nobody knows. I therefore wont be using my past experience as an expert for the specific crm that i have the certification, but I will be doing project management. Salaries are similar I think. But despite that, what do you think is better given my age, my experience and the best for the future?

Seems no brainer to me - too early to drop to industry and to a middle of the road player with noddy solution.Big 4 in CRM for a bit will give you the CV to go to big retailer doing what you know and more money in future. Therefore, choice is 1. based on what you have given us.DC

Considering you're in the position that you're in because of the unmentionable reasons, I think that makes them mentionable.

Well, after spending 3 and a half success years on Company A. I decided to move to Company B because they were about to start a big project for a big client. This was the story: Spent first 2 months doing nothing. Project started at month 3. At month 9 the project was put on hold by the client (Mainly due to bad project management. A fact: my company changed the PM twice). At month 12 the project was cancelled by the client. Spent next 3 months doing nothing. At month 15 I was fired (in very good conditions btw) along multiple other people. Oh, of course, several management people got promoted. Before month 12, I was about to be promoted due to my good performance on the project. I hate remembering all of that. I just hope I never have to work for that company again.

Well, I echo DC's sentiments. It's easier to move from consulting to industry than the other way round.

Not sure what the PM in consumer goods job has going for it compared with the big 4 one, apart from maybe not having to live out of a suitcase.Just make sure that your big 4 dream job isn't another "Company B". Check whether its an established part of the practice, what their pipeline looks like, where they've worked before etc. Ask to meet some of your peers. At 29 you might be a bit older than them - will that bug you?

I guess at some point in my career I will have to switch to PM. Im already doing an IT PM certification at a local university and I plan to get the PMP cert. later this year. I don't think is that good to be expert at a given technology, like Siebel, it makes money yes but in the long term technology is always replaced and that one is already being replaced. I might be totally wrong though. On other side this retailer can end up being a shitty company, with a shitty budget and I will end up managing a shitty project. :(

Is 29 being old already? Is that an age where i should expect most of the people to be younger than me? omg :(
