Hi everybody.IBM has offered me a relocation bonus of 2000 GBP to be relocated in London.I think this amount is not enough to cover travels, accomodation, initial costs of renting a flat. What do you think based on your experience? Is it enough or I should try to ask more? Moreover, I don't still know the salary, role and benefits they intend to offer...Thanks

£2k seems reasonable enough to move yourself down to a flat in London. It's not to pay your rent right, it's for the costs of actually moving? How have you got to the point of being offered a relocation incentive without even having a job role/salary? Seems mixed up.

Geppo,I will leave others to talk through is it worthwhile etc. Lets face it, this is dependent on your level. A Partner would look at this as peanuts, an Associate would be amazed at being offered anything. The main point I was going to make - if you want to accept, say no to the incentive bonus, ask instead that they give you £2,000 of support in expenses. What I mean by that is;£2,000 extra in actual salary sounds good for a junior as an incentive bonus, but it probably finishes up as £1,400 if you are lucky. This is not much to help you move in London standards. While £2,000 of actual expenses paid would be of huge help. You can claim the rental van, petrol, a handful of train journeys, first week or two of hotel and your first year of Oyster card. All these are genuine business expenses as you are only doing them because of work, hence best to get the expenses rather than salary.

Thx for the advices..The main problem I have is that they have only talked about relocation bonus, but they have not still offered a salary and I don't know what role they want to propose... Currently I'm manager in a consulting company and my expectations would be to be hired as managing consultant.Do u think 2k GBP is reasonable for a managing consultant in IBM?Again, my main concerns are that, when I find a flat i will have to pay also a deposit and taxes and I'm not sure 2k gbp are enough considering these expensive and other costs (hotel, flights ecc...)What salary range (band) do you think they should offer considering my current position and my experience (more than 7 years)?thx

Perhaps this is just me being silly, but the relocation bonus isn't to pay your deposit? That's your business? Pay it with the deposit you get back from the last place? The relocation allowance is to pay for you to relocate.. so moving costs / travel / temp accommodation. I think you're expectation of what they should cover is a bit high.
I've suprise they ofer a role to u.
Bit harsh - what has the OP done to make you say that?Anyway, isn't spelling a requirement to be a consultant? Four mistakes in an eight word post does not bode well my friend.

Why not ask them about salary? They'll tell you.
