Hi,I appeared for interview for Executive Role within the FS advisory (Enterprise Intelligence Group). I got a mail from HR stating that EY will be extending an offer to me and they will call me for a discussion soon. Wanted to check on a few things to prepare myself better for the discussion-1. I have an MBA degree from a Premier Institute in India and have worked for close to 4.8 years with a Top Indian IT Company (Infosys) in Consulting Stream. I have travelled to US on projects for top FS clients and hence have extensive client exposure. Was also informed by the HR that my interview feedback is extremely positive. Given these credentials, is it reasonable to ask for close to 55K of salary? How likely I am to get this much? How can I improve my chances?2. Does EY give any additional advantage in terms of salary and designation for MBAs? With an MBA and 4.8 years of experience (will be 5 years by the time I join), can I ask for a Manager's role? 3. Since I am currently in India and will have to relocate to UK, is it reasonable to ask for some relocation allowance or joining bonus? Is that a common practice for employees hired from other countries?4. Due to some personal issue that came up a few days back, I may not be able to join for next 5 months (though my notice period is only 3 months). How likely it is that I am allowed to hold the offer till then and join in August? Can that be a deal breaker?Regards,Consultant

4.8 years? Why be so unspecific when you could say 4 years and 292 days? Regards,Forum Poster

Hey there;Answers to your questions:1) Yes it's reasonable. I have calculated that you have a 56.3% chance of achieving this salary goal2) No - even an MBA from a Premier Institute in India will ping you around the 25th school in the world at best. Therefore it's nothing special and (quite frankly) it's what you do when you're hired rather than your MBA certificate hanging on the wall which dictates your career progression. Successful people will be successful with or without an MBA. In terms of initial offer, your MBA does not mean you will be a good, effective or motivating manager. So E&Y are unlikely to take a punt on you with such little experience. 5 years is absolutely nothing in the scheme of things.3) I think it's not unreasonable to ask them to sub you the air-fare from India and a couple of nights in a Premier Inn. I would recommend you asking this question directly after you've asked for the 55k, then followed it up with the Manager question.4) Definitely tell them this after you have asked for a top salary, a grade above the interview grade, a re-location allowance and a joining bonus. They will be thrilled to have you.Best of luckArby

little knowledge in this reply but at least no sarcasm 1. see what they offer you; you'll be placed in a salary band and at this level there will be relatively little leeway. glassdoor will give you an idea of the going rates2. doubt that MBAs get paid more but don't know. look on an MBA as helping you perform your job better (hopefully) and therefore assisting your progression 'organically'. MBAs are ten a penny these days. 3. yes it's worth asking - a neutral way is to ask what their relocation assistance package is. unlikely to get a joining bonus.4. may be a problem for them if they are hiring to a view on sold/firm pipeline. if it's a question of location, see if you could start working in the Indian operation for the first couple of months before relocating to the UK

1. I'll bet still better remuneration than Infy in India, certainly a better brand, multiply that brand by 3 as its FSI.2. If your MBA was Ivy League you might, but the days of MBA entitlement are over for most 3. If you are in India and applied for a UK role, surely the onus is on you to relocate at your own expense?4. They will have to judge if this is genuine or smacks of negotiation BS. Why is it that these 'personal crises' never seem to arise until an offer is made I wonder?
