I'm 34 and do a niche regulatory role in financial services and earn 65k plus bonus (and this is due to increase). I'm bored and feel I'm getting pigeon holed. I think I would enjoy the pace and variety of consulting in Big 4 for a couple of years. I see myself somehow getting out of corporate one day but don't know how! This is a life crisis and a cry for help as much as anything! Is consulting just a worse paid version of what I already??

That's a bit broad and you'll get better advice on here with some specifics. What area of regulation are you working in? There are parts where a move to Big 4 would be very useful, others where the work remains very granular and you would be unlikely to gain much.

Don't waste your time moving to consulting. You will regret it. There are so many so-called consultants wanting to make the move to industry. There is a reason for this.

Hi Compsec,This is a big decision, hence please think carefully and take advice from different areas.- This type of thread comes up quite often on the forum, worthwhile you reviewing previous advice- £65k plus bonus with an increase soon means that in Consulting, you would be at the very top of a Senior Consultant salary (with low bonuses and salary increases). Due to your inexperience in Consultancy, I'm not sure you would be able to obtain a PC position unless you are a very high achiever and already run teamsIndustry provides higher salaries, bonuses and perks. However, there's no denying that in consultancy you will experience a bigger mix of different situations and possibly countries. If you are looking for "a bit of change", you need to work out what you really want, as Consultancy is not a career if you just want some change. You are better off getting another job internally with a ~10% raise and everything that goes with it.Just some ideas, all up to you

Are you in a line function? Or project delivery? If you are in a line compliance/reg function, then it's worth remembering that 50% of most banks change/project portfolios are compliance or reg/mandatory.Why not volunteer to work on any one of those projects. At the end of the project you can stay in change, which is more or less what most consultants do, but with better pay, less travel and more internal ownership.
