Hi,I have signed a contract with a company this September and as I had a long notice period I start on January. In the meantime another offer, from a more reputable company with much better money around 20-25% more, came out.Is it going to be very bad for me to inform the first company that I am not joining? I need some advise from your experience.many thanks

A. jobs are scare - find someone who looks just like you and send them along instead, while creaming off 10%.or B. take the better job. the other firm will have forgotten you ever existed in a couple of months. that's life. **'advice' not 'advise' - can we make this constant error here a 'sticky'??

I agree with rc. This conundrum comes up quite often and the advice is consistent.1. Get the second job offer in writing first2. Write a professional letter/e-mail to the first company advising them that you will not be joining due to an improved offer from another firm. Be as low key as possible and don't get dragged into a discussion on counter-offers etc.You will be burning your bridges with the company that you are now turning down, and the recruitment firm if there is one, but frankly, who cares. As rc says, they'll forget you in a month.
