Hi all, I will be starting at one of the MBB at the post-MBA level (so that's an associate at McK, and consultant at B/B) However, I will be coming in from a different graduate degree, so I actually don't know much about the industry at this level. It seems like a lot of the resources I could find online were for college graduates starting as business analysts. So, do enlighten me. What are exit options like for a post-MBA consultant at an MBB? After 2 years? After 3~4 years and a promotion to engagement manager? Thank you.

Well, you have the classic option of the door: favoured by most and probably the most conventional.Alternatively, you could try jumping out the window: probably not far from the minds of most, but an option seldom exercised, as far as I'm aware.

polarbear - lesson 1 for a prospective consultant. Never profess things or make statements of fact where data exists that could refute what you're saying or show it to have been misinformed.I could write at length here about my first hand experiences of where strategy consulting colleagues have ended up - and about what exit options the Top-Consultant team would expect you to have in the coming years. But far better that I point you in the direction of hard data on this. I suggest you undertake 5 minutes of research on LinkedIn...A quick search for people who previously worked at the firm you'll be joining and who held the job title you'll be assuming will give you pages and pages of examples of where those people have now ended up. This is far more compelling than any opinions I or anyone else on here could share! But in summary - you'll have a ton of options open to you so I wouldn't worry at all about your exit options being limited. Worry instead about how you make a great impression when you join and how you ensure you one of the top performers in your peer group. Then the rest will take care of itself...Tony RestellTop-Consultant.com
