I accept many dont like me on this board but I did have a question that most in ACN could not answer with a straightforward face - If I have a few excellent C2/C3 resources, either groomed in house or exp hires, will they be considered for the move up ONLY on their client/project performance OR do they need backing of M/SM/SEs to be successful?I only ask to be fair and distinguish between idealism and practicality. There are some real good people and ACN would be better retaining them a level up than losing them to competitorsThanksAces

Aces, you are popular, you appear to be the most regularly impersonated - even more so than the true legend which is ZB.Now surely you must have worked out that it is the backing of SMs / SEs that directs where people sit in the project ladder which in turn impacts promotion prospects. No wonder those you asked are laughing at you

I will bite as there are some points to be made.Almost always a promotion has to be endorsed by the DTE and that means the backing of your Ms, SMs and SEs. The assessment of a project as to the performance of an individual will always be in the context of that project and not in the wider sense of "is this individual ready for the next level in the firm". For example having stellar technical nous in a small java FS project is no guide to whether this consultant is actually ready to manage others - and as you well know the objectives process can (and is) biased in favor of delivery more than people development. Also not all projects are created equal, how would you like it if all the promotes in your area came from a Diamond client? What C3 would take an M role in a small project knowing that?If the promotion process seems unfair (and I address this to everyone) it's because it's not a black and white question of "who is best" but rather "who is best suited".

someguy - "best at managing visibility", "best at being liked by manager" and "best at asskissing" are also criteria I have seen employed.

ZB is the real legend of this board. No one can take his place.But...havnt heard from him for a while. Reputable sources say that he is consulting NATO on Middle East/North Africa policy.
