Any opinions on what avenues I should explore next? I am currently at one of the big4 having being sold IT programme assurance/advisory however am doing primarily systems audits twinned with a little of the promised. I've been with my firm 7 months now and have tried to readdress the balance on numerous occassions speaking to my counsellor about a secondment and or transfer however he does not seem interested, and also raising it with the director who wants to grow the programme assurance practice but has delegated the responsibility to a senior manager who doesnt have the time nor interest. As a result I am back playing the market looking primarily at Business Change roles. This is as my experience prior to to the big 4 was with an IT services firm on thier graduate programme - within a small management consultancy practice for a year, before running a PMO onsite at a government client. Preceding this I worked for a couple of retail banks in a call centre and branch before deciding it wasn't for me. University degree 2:1 ba hons business.Any advice on what to do next would be great. In the short term I'd like to get into business change or become a project manager (building on the PMO experience) and long term perhaps look at being a head of business change or programme manager. I've recently interviewed for roles in business change for credit suisse, qbe and aspen insurance however have not made it to second interview. On the consultancy side I have recently interviewed with Accenture within their SI practice (telephone only at this stage), alongside a smaller boutique consultancy who have a focus on santander as thier only UK account. Any advice as to where to focus/refocus my efforts would be much appreciated.I am considering a secondment within my firm but don't know how much traction I can get behind it without management support. I make full consultant at the big4 in October.

My advice would be to at least see things through to October. There is a significant risk that leaving your first consultancy post just 7 months in will make you look like you couldn't hack it or were not perfroming. Ironic, given that your main problem is boredom!Once you have done 12 months and they have given you the stamp of approval that comes with the consultant title, you will probably find it a lot easier to move to another firm that has more governnace and assurance work on the table. In the meantime ask your mentor if he will get you on some PMO and/or PRINCE classes, to make up for the fact that you are not getting that type of work. Will add to your CV and show your clear perferenec when the tiem comes ot move.

Thanks for the reply Mr Cool ... apologies for my late acknowledgement but I thought I'd come back with something constructive. Also interviewed with Wipro Consulting and for one of the few times in my short career I came back unimpressed. I subsequently cancelled a final interview with HP as a Project Manager in thier Transformation practice, as I have decided to heed to your advice. I've spoken to our resourcing team and they have put me forward for a role working alongside our PI practice. Long term aim will still be to branch out perhaps become a contractor but it can wait.Nice to see the forum has experienced and helpful members.
