You should look for a job in industry with a big company, ideally a project-based role in Internal Consulting, Operations Development or something similar. If your role is project based they don't really need you every day and probably don't even have to replace you with a temp during maternity leave. When you come back you can just start working on new projects. It's similar to consulting, but the difference is that you work 9-5 and don't have to travel every week. Many jobs hardly require any travel. Just work 9-5 and concentrate on your family life the rest of the time. The downside is limited promotion opportunities, but hey, you are a Woman! You will be chosen for promotion over more qualified men so don't worry about career growth.Actually I am not sure why would single young men even consider working for this kind of companies, but that's a different subject.

Be a teacher. You get all the holidays off to spend with your children.Salary not great on its own. However it is much higher when you work out the value of the final salary pension, long holidays and job security.

Second internal consulting / change management / business analyst etc etc roles. The other point about teaching is an option too - ay may start low but many get to head of year and £40k by the time they are 30 so pay is not as low as poeple make out. However some companies are better with maternity leave than others. I hear IBM is pretty good for maternity leave pay and flexibility. PA was poor for maternity pay (stat min) but if you return full time you got a 25% uplift in base salary for the first year back. Nit sure if this is still the case.Consluting isn't a good life choice for people that want to spend time with their families as they grow up though.

ACN are also pretty good with maternity benefits, although the usual consulting caveats apply (work/life balance is poor, travel is a given).

to the last point, at one time, Andersen Consulting had the highest divorce rate of any company in the world - has that honour persisted into the post-asset-stripping Accenture incarnation?
