Do we still say Booz & Co. in the same breath as the other MBB? Could anyone please comment on how they are doing? How do they compare with the Strat divisions of PWC/Deloitte/EY etc?In terms of Progression? Salary? Exit opportunities? Thanks all.

Are they in the same league as McK/BCG/Bain? Not quite...they're not one of the Bs in MBBN they're the 3rd B in MBBB, an acronym which seems to be used less and less these days (and - i suspect - mainly by Booz employees). In terms of salary and progression, it's in line with MBB; certainly much better reputation for strategy than the big4 (doesn't have the IT / Accounting stigma), ezit opportunities shouldn't be too far behind MBB.In a nutshell: still a strong name and reputation, 2nd tier compared to MBB T(in same league as ATK and Roland Berger), not as good as it used to be, doing pretty badly in some geographies, but still a better choice for stan big 4

It's a contentious view I know but I think Booz have started to climb back up since splitting from the US defence business. Given their commercial work was always EMEA centric anyway it was a sensible move - but note how recent developments have been to either build out an operational practice or start piling people into middle east projects. Also you need to put their status on context - Roland Berger in their native Germany are frankly ahead of any of the MBB. If you were putting Booz & Co into tier 2 then it's at the top of tier 2 - still a brand which carries a little more weight that ATK and the others.Progression is good but cluncky - you can expect to be ejected nicely at some point for an MBA or to go get some industry experience, but for more senior hires it looks to be fairly smooth - a number of senior people made up in the ME recently, and it seems a commitment to not sidelining people in smaller or satellite offices, which is always a good sign. Agree with informed though on a mixed bag - not doing well in some geographies.Better than Big 4 in strat, but then you dont really go to Big 4 for strat anyway, you go for more pragmatism. Its comparing apples and oranges.

I would definitely agree with Mars' assessment. Booz are only a whisker away from being up there with MBB I would say. The difference is that once you are perceived to have strayed into doing large volumes of work of the type that McKinsey, Bain and BCG wouldn't usually be associated with then that takes off a little of the shine and makes an organisation seem not quite so elite. I would say this has influenced people's perceptions of Booz over the last decade; but as Mars says, since the firm split up the traditional Booz business is climbing back in people's estimations and certainly the calibre of people there is on a close par with MBB.Hope this helpsTony RestellTop-Consultant.com

What's their supply chain practice like? I've been contacted about roles both with Booz and ATK in that area, currently at Accenture in supply chain. I know ATK are strong but not sure about Booz.

A good place to be: for the forseeable future at least the pure strategy roles are being pushed east and south into 'emerging' markets - hence the uptake in Latin America, China etc for the strat stuff and operational consulting starting to dominate practice lines in Europe and US. Its only a matter of time before the strat houses start selling this stuff like the integrators sell ERP - use the strategy work as the shock troop, then sell volume, commoditised business behind it. Not sure where that will leave the rates models though. McKinsey doing this very well, ATK already very good at it. Why not Booz? If anything the increasing need to move into ops work in Europe for the strat houses with the brand and people to sell big ticket projects will push the smaller boutiques into either deeper niches or out of the market (unless acquired). It will be interesting to see how the more established and frankly better boutiques like PRTM and Efficio respond to the push from McK and Booz into this traditionally ATK arena.
