at the bottom. don't. you have specialist knowledge in an interesting and growing field. why throw that away to become a faceless generic grunt in an army of resource augmenters?

money? research in pharma doesn't exactly make you roll in cash, and the work you do can end up quite mind-numbing too.academia otoh gives you a modicum of intellectual freedom but the pay is shocking. this is of course somewhat offset by the perks if you land a spot in Oxbridge.OYT - figure out what type of consulting and firms you're interested in. figure out what these firms are looking for in a candidate. learn how to put together a killer cv, how to do case studies, and how to interview.

Listen pal,Forget the genetics knowledge, the skills and passing exams techniques. To succeed in consulting all you need to do is 1. become proficient in ppt, 2. learn to copy/paste quals into templates prescribed by clients, 3. learn to regurgitate all info, 4. learn intermediate level excel skills, 5. learn to draw ineligible process maps in visio 6. send emails at ungodly hours, 7. coupled with endless brown-nosing, and 8. building the so called 'internal network'. Forget all the crap about getting appraisal feedback from clients or from peers and filling in pointless objectives, goals and all the rest, it don't matter one scwint. Also if you're half decent looking lass, providing gratification of an intimate nature to some bald, middle-aged pot bellied partner is also advisable. May I recommend you apply to PA Consulting. They are well-known for respecting and hiring on strong academic records. There are employees there with genetics knowledge at PHD level too.
