So I read on this site that many of you dislike agencies (please don't go naming names, it's not big or clever) and that you're all worth more than your getting and that the most likely way you're going to get pomoted/pay hiked is by moving on.IF I was a resource manager in a decent (but not big four) practice with some proper roles to fill and I wanted to attract some serious sell/deliver consulting talent, where would I look? How would I reach you? PS Tony; I'm already going to be at the careers fair!

1) Post an ad on this site, exec-appointments and jobserve, stressing your brand and values. This will attract people specifically interested in getting away from big-4.2) Use your reverse-alumni and do some serious schmoosing.3) Use a good quality independent agent willing to work on a contingency basis. The whingers on here who claim to hate headhunters are all too often generic out of work consultants who are unsurprisingly fed up getting the brush off from low quality agents.Us genuine high achievers generally LIKE headhunters as long as they are GOOD ones, as we know from experience that they will help broker deals.Only my opinion...PS as you started the non-PC tone, lifting your skirt may also help, depending on the quality of your legs.

Thats the point though isnt it? I place ads with brand.values.greatstory.etc and the feedback I get is pretty apathetic. The ads are written professionally so I can't even take the blame for that!!Regarding good headhunters, you're right, they are good but to be frank, look at the various discussions on this very forum around margin pressure. Popping 20-30k on a mid-range hire just isnt going to do it, not in this climate.Schmoozing is fine, but there are times when that just isnt appropriate; when the initiative really does have to come from the Consultant. So, bypassing conventional attraction methods..my question stands. As for Anon, doubt if its you we're looking for, given your 'insight'.now, about my legs....

"Popping 20-30k on a mid-range hire just isnt going to do it, not in this climate"...but a decent hire would make that back for you in no time at all!You risk sending the message that your firm is not playing in the top division - a message that will be counterproductive in attracting the better quality candidates.

Sleepless,Don’t take this personally, but that is a really wishy-washy response and not one that will attract any red-blooded rainmakers.I have twenty years experience in the consulting field and a proven sales background (£million+ profit contribution). What impact would I have to have on your turnover and profit in order to earn 300K a year? How much of that would be in basic salary and how much in bonus? ...assuming you like my legs enough to make an offer.

I'd say it's pretty obvious where to start.Go back and look at all the competitive tenders/sales you lost. Find out who won and from this identify if there are any individuals working for your competitors that seem to be consistently kicking your ass in competitive situations. Then get in touch and offer them more than they're paid already, with better working conditions. That's how to do it, you perv, you.

Mr Cool, if you can prove a million profit contribution (as opposed to fees), then you should be able to walk into a partner role at EY, Capgem, PWC and the like, which generally start at £300K (roughly 200+100)

I would go one step further into this intense analysis. 200 + 100 = definitely 300....I need a drink now!

Hi Dozy,I agree, which is what Sleepless needs to consider when she’s pitching her firm to senior consultants with sales ability. Is she competitive? I bet not.I was of course being somewhat hypothetical about my own position. In my last year as an employee I did indeed deliver just over 5M in revenue at about 36% profit , which would indeed have put me into partner territory if the firm I worked for had not gotten itself into financial trouble. I subsequently decided that I liked life too much to continue in consultancy and have not worked as an employee since.I make about half as much as I would have done, but havea good work/life balance.

The funny thing about consultancy is that everyone talks about how much they "could have" earnt. Plus, recruiters expect us to magic up millions in fee income and profit whilst paying a "competitive salary" of a hundred grand or so. It's an industry that's rife with unrealistic expectations, sadly.

Dave,Completely agree. I believe the mathematical formula is….£1M x IF ONLY + THE RAISE A BLOKE I KNOW APPARENTLY GOT LAST YEAR – ( DIVORCE COSTS + MIS-LIFE CRISIS FERRARI) = WHAT I COULD HAVE EARNED
