Hi,I'm new to consulting and while looking at the Kaiser Associates website, they state that they are leaders in “Outside-In” analysis.Do you have any info on “Outside-In” analysis and/or could you direct me to some online content where I could learn more about this? Many thanks

That's all very well, but any experienced consultant knows that the real way to get results is through inside-out analysis. This is only confused with top-down or bottom-up by the young and naive.

Bottom up I suggest is best left to err...specialists. That's what my mother always told me.'Outside-in' is a term being used increasingly around the innovation/npd space to denote a customer need first approach - figure out what people want to buy, then build back to existing capability and work out the gap, whats needed to close that gap etc, rather than we have x capability who can we flog it to.Im sure some of the MCs on here can add far more depth to this though.

alternatively 'outside-in' is the MBB approach of solving any client problem remotely without ever needing to set foot in the premises, whereas 'inside-out' is the Big 4 approach of sweating an army of grunts until they explode...

Outside in is basically Kaiser's term for market research - so understanding what your competitors/the market is doing.Steer clear of them - it is basically market research with analysis chucked on the end as opposed to real consulting. As a junior, you rarely even meet a client.

I interviewed with them some years ago and they said to me what they specialised in was building reports out of huge amounts of research (I guess vs. something more quantitative). Even by the standards of consultancies, it sounded pretty tedious. Fortunately they didn't offer me a job ;). Also one of the male interviewers looked very like Reese Witherspoon. That is all.

From one of the pages of their "Health and Life Sciences Practice": The foundation of Kaiser's service offering is its world-class "outside-in" methodology, which involves delivering critical facts and insights from the complex external environment to drive strategic decision making.

Isn't it where you install patio doors and paint your living room green, thus making the garden an extension of your living space?

Alan you lack ambition. Better to wallpaper every plant in your garden and get the inside out.
