Hi,I'm in the process of applying for MBA programmes at London Business School & INSEAD.My background is working within the Market Research dept. for a large FMCG company - and I aim to use the MBA to help make a career switch into strategy consulting.I'd be grateful if anyone could tell me whether (during the recruitment process) strategy consultancies ask applicants to state their GMAT scores. Would an applicant have to provide the Quant and Verbal scores that they got in the GMAT - or just the overall score? My GMAT score was 700, (Quant: 74th percentile, Verbal: 89th percentile) -is this good enough? Thanks,David

Yes. It's just a hygeine factor. Average at LBS is c. 700; highest is 780, lowest is 620. Concentrate on essays etc. as that is how you will differentiate yourself.I think strat houses ask for scores, (and McK asks for grades on papers), but for an internship at least you'll probably get an interview so long as you can put together a decent CV, so it's not particularly relevant.

Thank you LBSer for your response.Do strategy firms ask for your GMAT score breakdown i.e. Quant & Verbal scores during the recruiting process - or do they focus on the overall score?Thank youDavid

Not sure but I guess so - I'd have thought that if you ask for one you might as well ask for 3? But I doubt they really "focus" on it at all - sure you did better in the words than the numbers but the recruiters will be much more keen on whether you can do well in the case study, and probably some kind of HR/leadership yada yada stuff.

I thought that consulting firms would ask just for the overall GMAT score...and not ask for a GMAT score breakdown

I think that most consulting firms will ask applicants to state their individual Verbal and Quant scores
