Hi everybody,I'm currently getting my mba at UCLA Anderson and I plan on getting into strategy consulting. My gmat score is not that's great (620). I'm debating if it's worth retaking it. I'm concerned that my score will prevent me from even getting an interview. I am confident that if I do take it, I can probably get somewhere in the 660 - 680s range. Any advice will help. I am aiming for Deloitte and other mid tier firms. Please help. Thanks!

GMAT scores in my mind are a better reflection of ability than academic quals. I personally beleive given the importance that Strat firms place of these, it may be worth taking again. Given that it is they that place an importance on them rather than SIs or Big4 types probably gives you an idea of the calibre of people who work there. On a slight, but rather topical discussion (see Bagehot blog on education in UK) I would prefer that unis use a GMAT type assessment for entry into universities. At the moment it is a complete lottery to get in to top unis (unis that provide the bulk of the fodder for consulting firms). All in all, GMAT should be used more extensively in assessing the calibre of people for top profression like consulting, top-end industry and other professional services.ZB

no it is not worth it, just apply without revealing your GMAT score and focus on your studies in the meantime
