Do you want a job for life? Frankly nothing is particularly safe anymore - even the public sector is being hit. Rather than look for the most secure sector/job etc, look at your own skills and ask yourself how employable you are - this is the only real security and a good MC should be able to move back and forth between industry and consulting through their career. Within consulting I think we are seeking a couple of things happening - one the return to brand (can you blame them? No one ever got fired for hiring PwC or IBM etc), the other (as debated quite amusingly in the FT yesterday) the increasing number of senior management in industry who have MBAs or are ex consultants and are therefore questioning the value of consulting (particularly strategy). But then the argument goes if they cut it why leave consulting? Ad nauseam.Simple solution is make yourself employable, both in skills and a positive, can do, let's do outlook, be nice to people.
