Hi- I would love to make the move from my current employer (management consultancy) into an inhouse consultancy (as they are called in France or Germany) but it doesn't seem to be so apparent how to find out which big corporations do employ internal consultants (or whatever they are called - commercial/strategy teams in industry?). Any ideas where to find information???Babs

Hi babs,In my expereience automotive OEM manufacturers do employ people to develop and improve supply chains and do act in a consultancy manner. It is in effect acting in an external role but you are employed as internal staff.I went the other way from internal ( external supply chain) to consultancy. I am intrigued why you want to move in the opposite direction?Best of luck though!

Banks use lots of ex-consultants in their central Change Management departments. Common skills are project management, structured business analysis, risk management, six sigma, lean, etc.

Hi BabsI made this exact move last year after 8 years in strategy consulting and am so far very pleased that I did (I work for a large energy company these days). I have done it as a step towards a line role - I wasn't ready to give up consulting, but know that I will be in the near future because of family commitments etc. if you want to stay in Consulting, probably not the wisest career move. All of the oil and gas majors have inhouse consultancies, most of the large utilities do as well, as do most of the Financial Services institutuions. A lot recruit through recruitment consultants (try Aston Carter for starters) so worth speaking to a few / doing some research.Hope this helps

Hi Babs,I currently work for the Consulting Practice of the largest Utility company in Britain and we're always recruiting! The practice is still in its infancy so lots to do in terms of development, but you do get to work on everything from the largest systems integrations in industry (SAP) to Business Strategy programmes which sometimes last years. My major criticism however is the involvement on my Practice on Projects and Programmes compared to externals and our reputation against these Consultants as we are simply perceived as busybodies from IT. Then again, all the more reason to join and develop he Practice as an industry leader!Hope that helps, C
