Offer Advice
12.05.10 00:00

Greetings all - I have been waiting to hear back on an offer or decline from a Big4 Strategy position and keep getting told they are waiting for a project to start before making an offer. Going on 3 weeks now and I want to know if I'm being strung along, I'm a backup in case a preferred candidate backs out or if they are being truthful. Can anyone offer any input? I had a 4 round interview concluding with a VP so frustrating to hear nothing. I would really appreciate anyones insights that may have dealt with this kind of delay.

if it's who I suspect from the title, it's probably genuine but they won't want to risk carrying you on the bench for a single day. that tells you something about their commitment to you as a person with a career, as opposed to a fee earning bum-on-seat.

Yeah, what a cr@p attitude on their part!Waiting for a project to come along before they bring you on board... sheesh. Talk about bean counters. What does it tell you about their level of commitment when they aren't even prepared to 'invest' a few weeks worth of salary at the start of what should, in principle, turn out to be a long relationship...Do they really see this as a long-term commitment? And besides, who wants to join a firm and get shoved straight out to client site anyway? I guess this firm doesn't bother with induction training?I understand your dilemma though... sometimes needs must... so just hang on in there. But I'd suggest that, when in the future you're presented with a job offer that pays you an extra £100 per year, you show them the same level of loyalty they're evidently showing you.Typical bean counter mentality though. Tight fisted and can't see the wood for the trees.

No offence intended to all the accountants out there by the way. Many accountants are great. No offence intended towards the Big 4 consultants who object to being called bean counters either.LOL, I've dug myself into a hole here.

Thanks to all for your feedback. I have a friend that had to wait 6 weeks for an offer for the exact same job title but from a different company so I was hoping this isnt too unusual. I do agree that it doesn't set a very good tone to start with a new company. Thanks again.
