I have worked with a number of independent consultants on projects and am thinking of making the move myself. Any advice? What are the main agencies that consultants use?

More info on skills and seniority please for a better answer.But...There are quite a few threads on the board addressing this, so do a search and you'll find a good cross section of opinion. In terms of agencies, it all depends on your industry and function, so I'm afraid there is no simple answer. For proper senior interim consulting roles I can recommend:Green Park, Albemarle, EA Consulting, Project Partners (bit more junior), Marlin Hawk, Campion Wilcox, Bluerock. However these all have a heavy bias toward FS, in which I work. You will also find specialist such as Allen Lane that only do Finance and Fin Transformation, plus others that specialise in SAP and similar. There are two problems starting out:1) Most agencies will give you little attention until you have made the plunge. They have a long line of "I'm thinking about it..." candidates.2) Most interim assignments start within a week of being interviewed, so it is logistically hard to wait until you win an assignment before handing in your notice to your perm position. It is not surprising that many of those that make the plunge do so when offered redundancy (vol or forced), or once they ar equite senior and can afford to take the risk of a period without income.
