Hi, I wondered if anyone had experience of being offered relocation support at experienced hire level, particularly with regards to London. Thanks in advance.

Don't expect much if you have requested the transfer. If they have asked you to relocate, then they should be assisting you. When PA were trying to get staff to move from the UK to the US offices some years ago, they used to offer a single economy class return trip home, and also allowed staff to retain the tax rebate from HMRC for moving out of the UK.

Thanks, I guess what I'm keen to understand in particular is the situation around being successful in applying for roles based in London with a new company. Is it ever the norm to have a request for relocation costs to be met at experienced hire level? Cheers.

Unlikely in my experience though it is a reasonable question for you to ask them as part of negotiations. Will it make a difference to your decision?

Thanks, I figured as much. It's pretty difficult to see opportunities in my area (People/Change) outside London at the moment, given the economic climate.

I have had similar problems and to be honest have never managed to get relocation assistance. The best I have got is some expenses support to be in London once or twice every couple of weeks which to be fair isn't a bad deal. I have had to search for opportunities which allow for a degree of home based working and its not great. Networking is very hard and the choice of assignments, despite being an experienced consultant, is limited by the cost of travel. At present there is some reluctance to hire outside of London so maybe you would want to consider this as an alternative suggestion.

I would do the following:1) apply with a London address so you don't get rejected2) if they make you an offer explain that you are living in X. Do they offer relocation?3) If not then can you be based in X for expenses? This means you can claim expenses to the london office and any clients and will not get taxed on them. Many consultancies will be fine with this as the clients pay the expenses.4) Once you have the answers then you can make a decision based on how much you like the job and salary.

Thanks, appreciate the suggestions. I'm keen to understand my options, should an opportunity with my current employer not work out.
