Really no-one has experience with Sap Consultancies in London?

IBM and SAP are the two obvious choices to me. May not be the top payers but it sounds like money is not your only driver. IBM have a central London ofice at South bank and an outer london office near Heathrow (or Feltham young offenders institution depending on your outlook i suppose). SAP is just over the road at Bedfont Lakes near Heathrow.

The problem with IBM and SAP consulting is working on clients "all over the world" (or do they tend to send consultants to "local" projects?)For example working for BlueFin or Ciber (two companies that I know from UK), probably involves less long-distance travelling?

A few other firms you can probably consider, Accenture, Deloitte and Capgemini, they have large SAP team as well.

firms as big as IBM have consultants all over the world so resource locally rather than fly people all over. So you wouldn't be going international unless you had a really niche skill.

OK,but why they mostly write about "up to 75% travel (weekends at home)". Does that mean that they send consultants to mostly UK clients, but you as a consultant work on an assignment per time and do 5 days on 5 on the same client/project?In that case it would make sense to "return to home" only at weekends (even if the client is within UK).I prefer the "style" of working on 2-3 projects at time and therefore not to spend the whole week in the same place.Btw: where they put remote/home work if they mention 5 on 5 days travel?thanks

Opt, it sounds like what you really want is a solutions / delivery centre role supporting the main consulting practice. No big consultancy worth its salt will do only UK-based client work. However if you have deep technical / functional experience (>5 years in a SAP specialisation) you may be asked to lead a team of onshore / offshore developers and liaise with several clients out of the HQ / DC / home office. Let me be blunt and say this is delivery and service provision, not consulting / advisory work. However this may be worth looking at.In my experience the niche SAP consultancies are even worse in terms of traveling - apart from having a more fragmented client base, typically you will be one of only two people who can support "SAP XYZ" and will be asked to fly out to the site and work there for a few weeks before go-live.

I have worked with Deloitte for 2 years and although I am nominally based in the London office, I have only had one client in London and that for two months only. I think you have to be realistic about your expectations here. Consultancies invariable involve a lot of travel as you are a consultant travelling to client sites all the time. If you want a job that doesn't involve travelling, then I suggest you apply for a job in the industry as the client implementing an SAP solution.

Kay,what I'm trying to do is "control" my travel.Of course I know consulting involves travel. What I would like to avoid is being away from home 5/5 EVERY week. Did you (in your Deloitte experience) found out that this wasn't achievable? I understand that you may be involved in an implementation that lasts for year/s, but is this a general rule for all teams/consultants?What about your current experience?
