Have an offer from ACN, joining as an experienced hireA 'friend of a friend' has said it's very up or out and that one bad review can get you out the door.Any truth in this? Happy to run the risk but wondering what, if any, payoffs they give to people performance managed out? Also, will it affect references ACN might give out in the future.(not good to be looking at redundancy policies before I even join a company I know, but in this day and age...!)

Hi maybe maybe. No - one bad review doesn't get you out the door - but it will either a) make you consider your exit options or b) light a firecracker under your @rse to get you performing again. I know it was not the point of your question - but where are you joining from as an experienced hire? The reason I ask is that the majority of problems faced by experienced hires is the "getting used" to the company culture....

thanksjoining from outside the consulting industry as wanted a lot more challenge....and looks like i will get it not just through the work but in 'managing' those who provide reviews.Any ideas on the references question? do they say anything about the reason for leaving on anything that they send to a future employer.

Accenture

Hi, I also joined Accenture from industry as an experienced hire 4 years ago. Some experienced hires find the transition very difficult, some(like me) don't at all. I wouldn't worry too much about the performance management processes if you like the job on offer, give it your best and enjoy it. You can assess later if it is for you or not. In terms of bad reviews, ACN doesn't give references when you leave, but remember that the consulting world is small, so best to remain in good terms with people.Good luck!

In response to the last point, ACN does give references when you leave - they are however generic in that they state when you joined, when you left and that you left the company in good standing - this last point is said in every instance (whether you are managed out or made redundant), the only exception being if you are removed due to mis-conduct.And before you ask, I know people who have suffered all three.
