Following thread 62196 "Recruiters - What impresses you?" I thought I'd turn the question on its head and ask candidates what qualities they look for in a good recruiter?Am interested in people's thoughts - many I'm sure will be born out of frustration / failed applications / lack of response from recruiters - whether rightly or wrongly etc. but hoping for some constructive responses too...

- genuinely connected and trusted at the client- understands and can assess cultural fit- gives constructive feedback if a process doesn't go all the way - too many recruiters, even at the top end, simply go radio silent

Totally agree with Ranker. That would be the recruiter of my dreams. So far I’ve barely came across recruiters who met one of the 3 requirements, and certainly none who met the 3.I would add one criterion: has a real position to fill in when he/she contacts me

haha anon, couldn't agree more about them having to have a real position to fill! haha, as opposed to those that place ads along the lines of "STRATEGY CONSULTANT URGENTLY REQUIRED. NEED FS EXPERIENCE AT BOARD LEVEL AND TRACK RECORD OF MAKING A PARADIGM-SHIFTING DEMONSTRABLE IMPACT OF EXTREME PROPORTIONS AT THE MOST SENIOR LEVELS. ALSO NEEDS TO BE GOOD AT PHOTOCOPYING AND MAKING TEA. SALARY: £25k-£900k. APPLY NOW! URGENT"

haha Job, I take it you also receive those types of e-mails that refer to "esteemed organisation" and usually have about 20 other companies in the CC line?LOL @ "I am job". It wouldn't be funny if it wasn't true!

I'm working with a good one just now on a role i'm interviewing for - understands the role, genuinly wanted to test my motivations and understanding for the role before using what appears to be a very strong relationship with his client to get me sat in front of them (at a company which i wouldnt have made it past the HR barriers applying directly), coached me on the people i'd be meeting, told me what to read up on before, keeps in regular contact to update on status and flexible with availability. Has been available on the few occasions i've had to get hold of him instead of some gibbon taking a message that never gets passed on. It's a shame that all of this isn't the norm and in my experience has been an exception!

Each time a recruiter says "I work with ConsultingPoint" I'm impressed :-)
