As someone who has completed the masters and who has 27 years experience in programme and project management I can offer you a few thoughts. The subject matter, major programmme management, means that this is a course for experienced people who already run programmes worth tens of millions and who understand that there is much still to be understood about delivering programmes both large and small. This course not only offers you the intellectual challenge of an Oxford masters but also undertaking a journey of self development with a peer group whose experience will add considerably to your knowledge. On my course the cohort possessed in excess of 500 man years of relevant cross industry experience from rebuilding failed States, through major infrastructure and technology projects to people who really do build rockets. It was one of the best and hardest things I have ever done, particularly as it was undertaken while working. If you are also planning to do it part time you need to be realistic about the level of effort you will need to sustain as you will need to average 15 hours a week over two years with the dissertation boosting that number significantly.
