Hi All,I have just been offered a few positions:1. MBBB consultant position (strategy practice)2. Big 4 consultant position (technology practice)3. Product Manager position with YahooIn the long term I would like to work in an executive capacity (VP, C level role, etc) within a high tech company (possibly marketing, not sure yet). Which one of these is the best option to try to meet that goal. I am leaning towards the product management position since I hear that these sort of roles provide a good platform for achieving my end goal and give you experience in both strategy and execution. Is this true though, or should I move into consulting?Really confused about this big decision, so any thoughts/insights would really help! Thanks!

Given your stated objective, option 3 without a doubt.

Sally, just out of curiosity, how many years experience do you have and what salary was on offer from Yahoo? I'm up for a similar role in another internet company, finding UK salary info for these roles has been near impossible. Thanks, curious george

Option 1 narrowly wins over option 3, option 2 is nowhere. You need a broader commercial base - tools if you like that term - to operate from in a senior role. The PM role will certainly give you some insights, but my feeling about Yahoo is they simply are not market disruptive enough to really push a PM role hard enough. More likely you will wind up driving incremental stutters in product development and go live rather than the kind of leaps which will require the real strategy work you think it will. My opinion would be to go with the MBBB offer and move as much as you can onto projects in the high tech space, although frankly as a PM you will not actually be that involved in products anyway, rather in designing the proposition around them to make a product out of an existing or developed capability. Unless you are going to invent Web3 in which case go for it.
