PA's basic is MUCH lower than other companies, but this is made up for in bonus. My bonus two yeards ago was £15k, and similar last year. The £6k figure translates into £2.3k net, once employers taxes, and deferred elements have been removed. No wonder people are leaving.

Dear Govt - open up a browser and go to www.google.com. Type in the words "recession, global, 2009" and read what comes up. You might want to email some of the people who were made redundant at the end of last year to see what they think of your ridiculous post.

PA is still doing OK????Are you 'avin a laff ??PA have lost almost a third of their staff over the past two years - they have closed most of their international offices and are still overexposed to the UK public sector. You need to wake up buddy. With insight like that, it is easy to see why you are not a consulting partner, and will never be one

Agree with anon the first. PA is haemorrhaging staff at an incredible rate. Which is quite strange because the 2009 results are looking not bad and certainly better than some of our competitors. I think that ultimately many people just don't want to work here anymore.

Indeed. I had to go away and do valuable things as a contractor before anyone would look again at my PA-stained CV. PA was the worst career choice I ever made. I also can't believe that one of the posters is naive enough to think that if you don't like an organisation it's your fault if you can't leave straight away (and in a recession too... doh!). Also, if you hate the organisation you're in it also pays to make sure that your next move genuinely improves things rather than rush into the first thing. Although it is difficult to think what might be worse than PA!

I had 3 years PA on my CV. I applied for three jobs, secured 3 interviews and then had offers for all 3. All were at higher grades and packages.Fortunately I had spent my time at PA taking on lead roles in big projects and programmes in both public and private sector. I also made a point of learning from my colleagues and clients and making the most of my experiences. If only I had spent a bit more time moaning on forums about how PA had blighted my life I might not be in a well paid challenging role in an investment bank now!

Hey mackHmmm… 3 offers all offering better money and each time a promotion? Sounds like you were typically done over by PA’s lowballing staff on pay rises and career progression. Bet you’re glad you’re out of that place, if they couldn’t acknowledge your stellar talent. And now you’ve got a cracking job in Investment Banking?? Good for you to have left the murky depths of PA’s public sector consulting model so fat behind. There are two possible conclusions to draw from your story:Either ..1) You are a genius whose talent was overlooked by myopic partners at PA Consulting, and who were quite probably threatened by your prowessOr…2) You are talking through your back pocket – and are just another bitter PA cheerleader who can’t understand why everyone is so unhappy doing process mapping for local government with PA. You probably would leave, if you could, but are greeted with derision by other employers when another PA CV with nil specialism and no private sector experience is presented to them.

Too perfect - Brilliant response. The default response to any post that that isn't negative. I am no longer in PA (I was there for six years and was an MC before I left) and when I decided to leave I applied to four companies, two via an excellent recruiter, and was offered three of them.As mack says, maybe I should have spent more time on here moaning about how PA had ruined my life and I too might not be in a well paid challenging role outside of PA.I have a bet with two colleagues on how quickly the whingers will respond to this claiming I am a stooge. I'll let you know the winner when the inevitable is posted.

If we accept that:a) some people don't like PA for some reason and don't think it is a great place to workb) some people do like PA, regardless of whether they are partners or corporate stoogescan we move away from the rather childish bickering that goes on here. This site is supposed to be, in my humble opinion, for professional people seeking advice and guidance from likeminded individuals. Going over and over the same things doesn't add any value to this forum and is likely to put people off visiting and/or contributing.Just my view as an outsider.

Forum Fan - you claim to be an outsider with no knowledge of PA, so what is your problem with PA staff discussing their company on here? It is not a happy place to work, and the partners don't listen to staff concerns so it is no surprise that PA staff use an open forum like this to discuss their concerns. If you don't like it - dont open the thread

I got a "high 3" with 97% utilisation and my mate from another practice got a 2 with low 70's utilisation. We both got the same percentage bonus, and I got 60% less in cash terms than last year.So much for PA's transparent reward system - the message to staff would seem to be: "don't bother going the extra mile; it won't be recognised and per hour of time you put in on practice extras you'd make more working the overtime at the local corner shop".

At the risk of inviting a whole load of “PA is cr@p” posts, can I pose a serious question? What is the explanation that PA are providing to justify these bonuses given they are clearly below expectations? Has the firm made/failed to make a profit this year? Is the firm “retaining” a higher percentage of profit than normal in order to ride our future storms? Please don’t just reply with any old garbage – I’m genuinely interested in the comms that a firm would put out with when this sort of thing happens.

@ Mr Cool "What is the explanation that PA are providing to justify these bonuses given they are clearly below expectations?"Unfortunately, this has been handled badly by the company. The attitude is still very much similar to that of many of the contributors here: if you don&apos;t like your lot here - then leave.PA are still hiring in certain pockets... for example, they are trying to break into FS again, but have struggled to do this on previous attempts. They are also actively hiring MCs across most practices - these are the sales engine, that get all the pressure of partners, but a fraction of the remuneration. The company is still contracting overall, so there is no great concern about staff leaving. It avoids another farcical redundancy round

<b><i>"The attitude is still very much similar to that of many of the contributors here: if you don&apos;t like your lot here - then leave."</b></i>I&apos;ve noticed another trend amongst many of the contributors here. Not about PA, but just generally about anything including interactions with recruitment agents. Often, it is said that: if you don&apos;t like your lot here - then it&apos;s because you&apos;re cr@p.

Hi PA-er,I understand you feel that PA are handling their bonus situation badly, but what exactly are they actually saying when they hand out the cheques?e.g. Here is you cheque for 3K, sorry its not the 15K you feel you deserve, as it was in year 200X, but...a) ...even though you hit your targets, your practice area did notb) ...even though you and your practice hit all your targets, the company did notc) ...even though the company made their targets, we&apos;re holding some back for the trouble we foreseed) ...even though the company made its targets, more has to be paid to partners, cos we can&apos;t do with less.e)... you shouldn&apos;t have had such high expectations, 200x was a one-off miracle yearThere is a lot of (understandable) emotion about PA on these boards. The official reasoning behind lower than expected bonuses should be a strong pointer beyond that emotion to the objective problem of the firm, e.g. everyone is underperforming, some teams are dragging down the minority/majority, the partners are getting greedy.Has anyone at PA actually asked why their bonus is smaller than they expected?

Listen all you nonsense process mapping Level 3 high priests who apply their &apos;management consulting&apos; talents to PA. It&apos;s a nonsense firm, doing boring work for boring people. But things are not that much greener anywhere else: fundamentally, it&apos;s all the same irrespective of what firm you choose to apply your labour: it&apos;s all about PMO rubbish, process mapping (or design as the charlatan&apos;s new found vernacular) and generally being a dog&apos;s body on some large scale business transformation. All you labourers who have vision or inate belief that your are enhancing performance, or providing superior value are as much confused as the humiliating jargon you lot incessantly spew. ZB

To the PC who got to 15% is high end, I was told that as well. Then I worked out that as one of the supposedly higher performing and more experienced PCs in our practice, my share of the PC bonus pool should at least have been equal to the average of the "total PC bonus pool" listed on the print out. Based on the number of PCs in our practice and the size of the pool, I got less than average despite being told I was at the top end of the range. Given a couple of people got 1s and some people have already resigned, the Partners must actually think we are quite thick based on their blatant misinformation re: the averages. For all the talk about PA being employee owned and transparent, it&apos;s one of the least transparent and poorly managed firms in the market.

I doubt it - where would they go? The market is already stuffed with public sector process mappers

POE should also close too. The POC takeover of BOP has been an unmitigated disaster. There is constant inter-nicene war between the legacy practices.

But isn&apos;t disbanding the Govt pratice almost like unravelling PA? All they ever seemed to do while I was there was public sector work. These (much needed) govt cutbacks must be a total hammer blow for PA. Sure, they can ride out for a while on their deep cash reserves but it could get to be an even more demoralising place to work. Other consultancies have credentials in industries like FS and utilities where there is hope and some evidence of recovery but PA has no significant presence in any of these as far as I can see.

More cuts are indeed on the way - this time at MC and PC levels. POE certainly will (and should be) be hit hard - the merger there just hasn&apos;t worked, and the Partners and MCs are useless.I haven&apos;t heard much about Ceridian or anyone else trying to buy them in recent months. I would say that a sale of a large public sector consultancy like PA would be very difficult to pull off in the current climate.

8 people have left the FS practice in the last month alone (out of about 30). Not good.
