Hey, I have offers for the following courses:BA Industrial Economics - University Of Nottiningham (Nottingham Uni. Business School) [3Years)BSc International Business & Economics - Aston University (Aston Business School) - [4Years)Nottingham could be seen as having the better repuation, but the Aston course includes a year in inudstry. My question is whether firms such as IBM, Big 4, Accenture, PA, Capgemini, etc favour University repuation over a year of experience gained as part of a degree? I would of course attempt to get experience in consultancy but I hear it's really competitive, how valuable would experience in a unrelated role be? i.e. managerial.I know I can get an internship, but wouldn't an internship + 1 year experience be more valued than coming from a higher rated University? Also, does the BA Vs BSc matter? I hear that BSc is more respected? Sorry about the random questions, as I hope to go into consultancy I felt this was the best forum to post my questions.Thanks,J

Either will be fine. They are both in the same league.I would differentiate between them by how much essay writing you like to do. BA = lots of essays. BSc = More in the way of structured questions.

I've been involved in grad recruitment with two of those employers. Either course is par for the course but the industry placement will not be a material consideration - grads are really selected on potential rather than experience, and brief grad placements are not 'real world' enough to be particularly valuable. The key thing is to differentiate yourself beyond the academic curriculum - grad intakes these days are stuffed with extracurricular overachievement.. Look for things that demonstrate leadership and commitment/perseverance/hard graft.

While you are to be commended for thinking this far ahead about your career - don't forget about considering where you are likely to enjoy most for the next (and possibly best - up to you) 3-4 years of your life.Weigh up Nottingham vs. Brum, the sports, the social activities, the clubs, amongst many others - all of which will add to you as a person and what sort of an asset you'd be to an employer over and above your course content.Not biased (well OK I am!) but when I was there the ratio in Nottingham was 60% women to 40% men.......go figure! (if that is a stat that interests you of-course - it swung it for me! and a disclaimer that I am assuming this ratio works in your favour!)
