Hi, as part of a recruiting process (Efficio Consulting) I will soon have to do an excel based case study. I have never done such a test before and I do not know what to expect. I would appreciate if somebody who gained experience in such exercises would share his/her experience with me. Thank you

I have had stats based case studies (risk management). I would recommend you do more than they ask (of course correctly). I once did an Excel based case study in which I was asked to present results graphs/results in Excel. However, I actually wrote a mini report detailing each step I took, why I chose it and did the results make sense in the real world. They want to see how you think. You need to think through and always have the so-what question in mind before coming up with a method. Never make any assumption without an explanation. Hope this is helpful.

I am the Recruiting Coordinator for Efficio and would be happy to give you a brief description of our Excel case study. This is essentially a 1 hour exam designed to test your analytical skills when using Excel. We provide you with a large amount of "spend" data, similar to what our clients provide us, and you have to answer 4 questions relating to this information. The most important thing we look at is how the candidate solved the questions (i.e. what tools in Excel are used) - not simply the final answers. If you have experience in using Excel in a highly analytical manner, you should be fine. Any other questions, feel free to let me know.

Hi, thanks for the above info and could you shed some light on the general recruiting process. How long did Efficio take to back to you after you sent over the applications? And how is the online test for the 1st round like?Efficio seems a really strong firm and I heard its culture is energetic and morale high. Would appreciate any information regarding the company as I just gave in my application days ago. Many thanks!

To Carrie Crevel, Efficio Recruiting Coordinator Could you please give an example of questions to be asked on that case study? The type I am interested is exactly the one you have described. Other question relates to best way to get prepared to that sort of case study, which is based in Excel?Thank you in advance!

HelloUnfortunately this exam was developed in house by Efficio consultants, and therefore we do not have an example of questions to provide. To the best of our knowledge, we are the only management consultancy using an exam of this type. However, if you are comfortable crunching data on Excel, and using the main functions (i.e. vlookups, pivot tables, sumif, etc) you should be able to successfully complete the exam. The best way to prepare is through general Excel use and practice, using large data sets.
