I have offers from MBB and Big-4 for supply chain role, manager level. I know it's not the 'done thing' to turn down MBB and I'll get a lot of 'if you're a decent consultant, work it out for yourself' answers but I genuinely need some advice form people in the know.I've obviously had the sales blurb fom both but want to get the real picture.As I see it: -MBB - good on CV but not sure whether their supply chain work is too strategic i.e. not operational - inventory, trucks, sheds etc..Big-4 - operational nuts-and-bolts stuff but not that well regarded when moving on.And before I get the 'thinking of exit options before you've joined' stuff, this is my first job move, aged 27, from industry to consulting to get involved in other sectors before (probably) moving back into industry 5+ years on.Any insider insights much appreciated.Thanks

All other things being equal (salary, level) go for MBB. Even if it's deemed a specialist role the name will carry more weight. "Strategic" or theoretical supply chain work is just as interesting as the nuts and bolts implementation stuff, and you will be talking to heads of Supply Chain and COOs rather than plant managers. Given your plan to move back into industry 5+ years on both will be useful, however the C-suite of industry jobs is much more receptive to an MBB alum and you will have more exposure to the right contacts.Out of interest what is the "manager" equivalent in MBB? I thought they only hired specialists up to consultant / SC.

My understanding is that MBB and the like have generalists at the junior levels (dogsbodies), specialists in the mid-ranks (bringing some insight to the table), and then when you become a partner you become a generalist again (sell anything).p.s. I'd worry less about your CV and more about what you want from life. Nobody ever got to their deathbed and thought "well, I may have dedicated my best years to the corporate world, but at least I finished with a pretty damn impressive CV!"
