I have an issue. I am new to Enterprise consulting. I have 2 offers, but nothing concrete as of right now. One company said they will call me tomorrow for a position starting on Monday, potential 10 week contract or more. The other company told me for sure they would have something early next week, but the main guy is out this week.Question: How do I go about accepting contract gigs? I don't want to lose the other company for future contracts, so do I contact them only when I have the contract/plane ticket in hand, or do I give them a heads up I might have something else.?My gut tells me first come, first served and let the other company know when I will approximately be available. Any insight would be greatly appreciated !thanks,Lance

First come, first served. Plus, it sounds like the first company have a specific project they have matched you against, while the second company isn't relying on you specifically. Let the second company know approx when you'll be available, and I'm sure they'll understand.

Just be honest and besides you haven't got anything to decide until you actually receive the offer. I would take the first one that comes along if its what you want you want to do and the rates are acceptable. If it's not, stall for a couple of days and talk your situation through with the other company. If they are serious about placing you they will move quickly to come up with a counter offer. Whichever one you decide to take, keep both parties informed of where you are at and be clear with them about your situation. No-one will appreciate you messing them around and you may need the other contact at a later date so don't sully your reputation by being vague.
