I have been asked to apply with Serco Consulting and was wondering if anyone works/has worked for or knows what this crowd are like? Any help would be appreciated.

They're a BPO shop -- most of their work is with local government in the UK. Wouldn't be my first choice, but horses for courses and all that...

They're not a BPO shop at all. They have a proper MC division with a new chief exec and the quality of staff is high ( mostly ex Big 5 types). Lots of public sector work though but in this climate, I'd view that as mostly a positive. Plus they are backed by a financially stable, large services group which is as recession proof as one can get in this climate.Go for it is my suggestion

Serco do mostly IT and advisory work for govt and public infrastructure. Agrre that in this climate , it offers stability.he downside is that the subject matter is quite boring ( subjective opinion of course)- see their website for the subject matter they get involved in.Also, their consultants are reasonably good, but they dont have much of a brand name. Having serco on your resume wont do you much favours in the long run than having the average joe schmo on your resume.

A body shop offering a one way ticket to other body shops where you will remain for the rest of your consulting career if you take this route: once you go down the BS route there is no way back I'm afraid.

At some level all consulting is body shopping. Client side advisory sounds more respectable but ultimate reality is the same. If you're a body whose skills clients value and demand, there's nothing wrong with being 'shopped'.Serco Consulting are well respected and regarded by their clients.

Thanks for the info guys but if they have a bunch of ex Big 5 that is a big turn off. Some of the best consultants I've worked with never joined the arrogant robot factories. Think I'll pass this group

Yes, that does appear to be exactly how one makes a choice by reading anonymous comments on a bulletin board.
