In my experience, there's no such thing as "IT Law", merely "The Law" as applied in an IT context. Most of the "IT Lawyers" I know aren't very IT-literate. They sort of fudge issues by talking about "Contracts for delivery of a service" and "Intellectual property" and such things. They also love Microsoft Word's "Copy and Paste" function and have been known to create 45 page documents in under 10 minutes.

that's why i thought someone who actually knows IT might have an advantage, but then again you don't have to be a former bank robber to know the law on robbery!

There is a shortage of IT law professionals. To be in IT law, your tech experience helps, but you also must have legal experience and qualified as a lawyer ( JD or equiv degrees). The lawyers currently masquerading as IT Lawyers dont have real world IT experience , but however do know the law. Well worth the switch in my mind, because:1. IT Lawyers get paid more ( partly because there is less competition)2. Some would argue it more interesting work 3. Higher growth potential.4. More pay5. Real world IT experience will put you in very good stead!!This is a long term play, of course you need to go back to school and get law degree(s)-- easier said than done.
