Guys, I did it!! After several rounds of interviews, a lot of hard work and dedication finally paid off. I have been offered a job with IBM as an SAP consultant!!!I am so excited! Its always been a dream of mine to get into consulting. Traveling all around the world, looking at strategic business issues that companies are facing, working with executive level people in helping shape their organization by fostering innovation and of course struting my consulting goods =)I can't wait to get started, I am so excited!

All that effort to become an IT charlatan.Having said that you are probably deluded enough to think you are in consulting and offering strategic business insight to your client so ignorance is bliss.Keep your head down, work hard and you might reach the promised land of Accenture SI&T shysters

This must be a wind up. You certainly couldn't describe IBM as a consultancy (Even BCS as it was) and being a SAP config monkey isn't exectly looking at strategic business issues. You'll be doing basis work and AIX SA work next !

There is some funny banter on this forum hence I am not knocking it (ZB in particular has moments of lyrical genious), but......it's a sad state of affairs that people feel the need to be-little those in perceived lower status or less interesting roles. It appears many here think of MBB and IB as the elite - rest assured that others look down on them in the same way as (some of) them look down on the 'charlatans'. Just an observation, carry on thinking you're better than others if that really makes you feel good (this clearly doesn't apply to everyone!).If you're wondering what I do, all you need to know is that I am content in it and don't feel the need to knock others.

You are clearly very excited.Let me tell you a few facts about working as an SAP consultant at IBM:IBM has a backlog of SAP work and a shortage of consultants, so they are recruiting anyone and everyone. People with no previous SAP experience are sent on SAP training courses and then sent on a project. If you are a newbie to SAP, you will not be working with executive level people and looking into their strategic business issues. On an SAP implementation you will be gathering business requirements and figuring out how those can be met in SAP. You will be writing a lot of documentation, doing configuration and testing solutions in SAP. You can use your creative thinking to resolve business issues, but unless you are a stream lead you will not be making solution related decisions. That’s for the team lead and the solution architect.Once you are at IBM, you are responsible for finding yourself chargeable work. You have to use your IBM contacts and network to get on a project. This can be quite tough at the beginning when you don’t know anyone, but you will get help from your Resourcing Manager and People Manager. Depending on how much SAP and work experience you have, you may be able to choose between different projects. If you are London-based, you will be most likely offered to go on one of the large Oil & Gas clients. Great opportunity, if you want to be part of a large team on a project that runs for years. Not so great, if you’d rather do something more dynamic. The calibre of IBM SAP consultants is known to vary from very good to very average. As IBM use Global Delivery resources on their projects, most of your colleagues will be Indian. UK-based consultants who have lots of SAP experience are encouraged to take more senior roles and get into leading teams. There is a high likelihood that you could sometimes be replaced by a cheaper Indian resource. Whether you will be travelling around the world entirely depends on the project you are on. Travel policy is revised regularly and many clients have limited travel to minimum due to increased cost of flying, You will be communicating with your colleagues across the globe via conference call instead.In consulting you start at the root level, get hands on experience in resolving client’s problems and work your way up. It will help your career at IBM if you do what you are told and align yourself with the right people. Finding yourself a ‘godfather’ within IBM may help you to climb up the career ladder faster. Guys, I did it too!!...!! ! After 1 brief interview, no hard work and a lack of dedication paid paid off. I have been offered a job with Dulux watching paint dry!!!!Pays better than IBM too.Yes! Yes! Yes!Herbal does his after implementing SAP.
