Hi everyone,I am about to join Accenture's Supply Chain Management practice as a recent graduate (Msc. in Management). My idea was to do strategy consultancy at first, but as I was not accepted at the big 4 companies, I decided I would do Supply Chain for the first 1 - 2 years. However, I don't want to specialize on this and want to be doing something else after gaining some maturity and being exposed to a number of industries. Is this a good career move? How much time can I work there maximum if I don't want to be considered a SC specialist? What about changing to another 1st tier firm after 1-2 years? Does Accenture pay a Master in law or something lke that?thank you very much!

In ACN-SCM you'll be doing exactly the same type of work as all other analysts, however only on SCM Projects. If I were you I would aim for the Analyst Consulting Group as you'd get more choice on industry and type of work (CRM, Strat, SI&T, SCM, anything provided the opportunities are there)SCM are however probably recruiting more than ACG right now.If you join SCM it's highly likely you'll start getting pigeonholed quite quickly as you'll only be getting SCM experience and exposure to SCM skills and technology (other than the generic stuff)Chances of a move after a short time (1 - 2 years) are slim IMHO, but not impossibleAnon

Hi Anon!Cheers for your help!I did not know about the ACG. However, I won't work in the UK, but in France. Is it called differently there? In any case, I need your help! I don't want to be branded as a SCM consultant. What do you suggest doing in this case? Change after a year internally to ACG? Change firm? Switch to the industry?Help please help !thank you in advance

Hi,I cant really advise what to do, just give a little info on what it'll be like in ACN.I think ACG is UK only so probably not an option in France. It will be possible to move groups after a year or so, however you will need to build your network outside of the Supply Chain Practice to get someone senior to sponsor you in.You will build some good non-SC skills (such Six-Sigma and core consulting skills) which will be attractive both to other firms and in industry. The longer that you stay in SCM however the more you will need to gain a specialism (probably once you at Consultant level)SC is a good group to get cross industry experience as the skills are very transferable between industries. In my opinion, being an SC consultant is actually a very attractive thing... lots of growth as companies strive to transform and save costs... you could be in worse places!Anon
