sorry for this...So I would like to ask you for a piece of advice for my career.I am a recent grad an I got an offer from Accenture in the Supply Chain Department.SC was not my first choice, as I always wanted to do strategy. This is why I applied to the big firms and got interviews with them. However, I screwed up some cases in the final rounds which is why I never got an offer. Now I am wondering what to do:Accept the offer of Accenture in a department I cannot picture myself working for the next 5 years; or apply to a smaller consulting firm and try my luck again? More precisely, what I am looking for in your answer is a hint to what matters most as a recent graduate: the brand and reputation of the firm (accenture is highly recognized), or the tasks you do (which would be strategy in a smaller firm).thakns for your help!i am really confused =-(

I would go for the ACN offer. The tasks you do for the first couple of years are much the same, regardless of your firm/practice/industry focus.

Go for ACN, build your network and then move groups - there's a lot of scope to do different kinds of things at Accenture

Hi Anon!Thank you for your advice. However, I am wondering if I started working in a smaller strategy firm, switching to a 1st tier firm would be easier, as the way of working and the work itself would be comparable as opposed to Accenture where I would be working on rather operational topics with regard to the SC.Wouldn't you agree on it?Cheerio

No, I don't agree. You will be doing the same work whether you are working for a niche firm or ACN. Future employers will know this. However, they will more confidence employing somebody from a known background.

well considering that accenture is sacking people and will belargely affected by the recession I would be carefull.if the salary is right I would go for the smaller one, they are more agile. you are not just a numberthere and can make a real contribution + you wont be the powerpoint slave and co-admin. you might actually have some real stuff to do.

thank you for your comment!Don't you think acn won't be as much affected from the recession as a smaller firm will be ??Secondly, what are the smaller firms you are talkin about? Any names?cheers!

I'm in ACN Supply Chain. The redundancies don't affect that area and it's still pretty strong.
