I am student currently taking my ACCA professional course and thinking of pursuing a career in managment consulting. I do not have any previous consulting expereince eventhough i have two years audit expereince in one of the big4 companies.I am worried that a career in consulting will distract my family life as a lady considering the long hours i would have to work. What do you think?

Answer Yes and it will not1. Does your hubby understand the life of consulting and how it will change the home?2. Has your ubby agreed to this change?3. Are you sure your hubby will not change his mind as soon as the going gets tough (if you answer to 1 and 2 was yes)?4. Do you have kids and how will this affect them, so the question is will it affect them?

Management consulting is such a broad topic and includes so many different roles. E.g. working at Accenture and living in a hotel for 3 months certainly would distract from your family life to a degree. However, if you work at a firm with less requirement to travel then less so. Consulting hours can be long but I suspect they compare with most other professional services - certainly not 9-5, but 14 hr days are not as common as some people here would have you believe.
