I don't really understand it. Sorry to be so dense.What sort of things would a management consultant do? And would he work within a particular area or be expected to do anything?

Management consultants are NOT expected to do anything, they work in no particular area and are the closest thing to God you will ever encounter, especially now that Investment Bankers are the new satan.

The work is not in any particular area and we are not expected to do anything, as you correctly suppose.We just walk around the office all day holding a mug of coffee and talking about the weekend. Kinda like HR does.

Mangement consultants would clearly do specified things, unless they hadn't been specified. Would almost certainly claim to work in a particular area(s) and whether they were expected to do anything largely depends on whose expectations you are talking about.I hope that clears things up (or not)?
